US President Donald Trump is expected to visit Ireland from September 12–13, with engagements planned in Dublin before travelling to County Clare for the Amgen Irish Open at his Doonbeg resort.
Donald Trump is expected to visit Ireland next month, with the two day trip set to include political engagements in Dublin before he travels to County Clare to attend the Amgen Irish Open at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg.
The Irish Open is taking place from September 10–13 at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, with defending champion Rory McIlroy and Irish star Shane Lowry among the headline names. Organisers have forecast an attendance of around 70,000–75,000 spectators across the tournament.
Trump is expected to arrive in Dublin on Saturday, September 12, where he is expected to meet Taoiseach Micheál Martin. Current reports indicate that Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park is the likely location for the meeting. Trump is then expected to travel to County Clare to attend the Irish Open at his Doonbeg resort.
The visit has triggered a major security operation. Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly has classified the operation as an “extraordinary event”, meaning Garda leave and rest day arrangements have been changed to ensure sufficient personnel are available. The Defence Forces are also preparing for the visit, with a joint command centre known as “the Octagon” established at McKee Barracks in Dublin to coordinate the wider security operation.
The visit is also expected to attract protests. Demonstrations have been planned in Dublin, with further protests expected around Shannon Airport and Doonbeg.
