A 12 year old boy has died following a collision between an Iarnród Éireann train and a car at a level crossing in Kiltybo, near Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo.

Five level crossings in south Dublin could close under DART+ plans, with changes proposed for Lansdowne Road, Serpentine Avenue, Sandymount Avenue, Sydney Parade and Merrion Gates.

Public transport fares across Ireland will rise by an average of 15% from January 2027, with Dublin’s 90-minute Leap Card fare increasing from €2 to €2.30.
